Casa Jesús Seminary Celebrates Its 27th Annual Awards Banquet

By Fr. Octavio Munoz

Greetings! I’m delighted to share with you on this blog some exciting news about Casa Jesús.

Casa Jesús, a part of the seminary system in the Archdiocese of Chicago, focuses on Hispanic men who want to discern their calling to the diocesan priesthood in Chicago. We have been around since 1987, when Fr. Arturo Perez and Fr. Silvano Filipetto began this fascinating adventure of forming and educating young men to the priesthood. Since then, 48 (forty-eight!) men who came through Casa Jesús have been ordained to the priesthood in Chicago; many of them serve now as pastors and associate pastors around the archdiocese, as well as in archdiocesan offices; some are pursuing advanced degrees in Theology and other disciplines. In addition, eighteen Casa Jesús alumni are enrolled in St. Joseph College Seminary and Mundelein Seminary; three of them will be ordained to the priesthood this coming May.

Casa Jesús continues its mission of fostering priestly discernment in the multicultural Archdiocese of Chicago by being a home to Spanish-speaking Latinos interested in the priesthood; providing them with the opportunity for English studies, spiritual growth and acculturation; and by serving as a resource to Latino priests. Nine young men are currently completing their second quarter at UIC, and they are preparing themselves to continue on in their priestly formation at St. Joseph and Mundelein this fall. Please keep these men, and those considering the call to priesthood, in your prayers.

This coming Saturday, April 12, Casa Jesus will celebrate its Annual Awards Banquet, with the theme "Forming Pastors for God’s Flock." It will take place at the Palmer House, downtown Chicago. We will award the "La Llave de San Pedro" Award to the Oblate Sisters of Jesus the Priest; and the "Corazon de Jesus" Award to Dr. Michael W. Koller. You are invited to join us celebrate 27 years of service to this archdiocese. For tickets and more information, please call Ms. Yesenia Ortiz at 312-640-1065 ext. 10, or visit

Thank you for your prayers and support. Muchas gracias!
