CARDINAL GEORGE DISCUSSES NEW PRIEST RECRUITMENT INITIATIVE

Chicago, IL (July 24, 2007)— During this month’s edition of The Church, the Cardinal and You, Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago, discusses his hopes for the newly launched Archdiocesan initiative to recruit and screen young Catholic men for the priesthood. T he initiative aims to identify priest candidates f rom all across Cook and Lake counties in preparation for applying to a seminary, such as the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary.
In the 30-minute program, moderator Graziano Marcheschi, Director of Lay Ministry Formation Programs for the Archdiocese, also interviews Father Joseph Noonan, Director of the Archdiocesan Vocations Office and other priests on the front lines of the multi-faceted recruitment initiative. The program also expresses the joys and challenges of being a priest with highlights from a vocational video produced by the Archdiocesan Office of Radio and Television in honor of Cardinal George’s 10 th anniversary.
The Church, the Cardinal and You can be seen every Friday from 7 to 7:30 p.m. on Chicago Loop Cable Channel 25. In the suburbs, the program airs on Saturday evenings on Comcast cable stations as detailed on the Radio/TV page of the Archdiocesan website, www.archchicago.org. Jim Disch, director of the Archdicese’s Office of Radio and Television, produces the program.
