ARCHDIOCESAN CHORAL FESTIVAL AT HOLY NAME CATHEDRAL
Historic, First-time Event Featuring Adult, Teen and Children's Choirs
Chicago, IL ( October 5, 2007 ) – On Saturday and Sunday, October 20 and 21, the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Office for Divine Worship will host With all the Choirs of Angels, a choral music festival at Holy Name Cathedral, State and Superior Streets. Participating in this historic, first-time event will be twenty-four adult, teen and children’s choirs from Archdiocesan parishes across Cook and Lake counties.
Directing the choral festival will be Rick Gibala, Director of Music at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Arlington, VA. “Rick's life-long love of pastoral music, his years of service at the parish, cathedral, and diocesan levels, with adult and children's choirs, and his work with the National Association of Pastoral Musicians make him the ideal choice to lead this exciting event, “ said Todd Williamson, Director of the Archdiocese’s Office for Divine Worship.
Gibala also serves as Artistic Director of Cathedral Concerts, is Music Coordinator for the Diocese of Arlington and is a charter member of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM) Council. In 1999, he was honored by NPM as Pastoral Musician of the Year, and in 2000 he received an honorary doctorate from the Leonine Institute.
Since September 23, over 300 adult, teen and child choristers from across the Archdiocese of Chicago have been rehearsing at parishes in Cook and Lake counties for this first-time event. The choristers will have a final rehearsal together under Gilbala’s direction at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, October 21, in preparation for a 5:15 p.m. Festival Eucharist (Mass) at Holy Name Cathedral which is open to the public.
