ARCHDIOCESAN PARISH LEADERS GATHER ON FEBRUARY 2
Taking the Spirit to the Streets: Bringing People Closer to God
Chicago, IL ( January 15, 2008 )— Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I, Archbishop of Chicago, will participate in Parish Leadership Day, February 2, at Guerin College Preparatory High School, as a workshop presenter and during a question and answer session following lunch that has become a popular feature of this annual event.
The Challenge of Secularism is the title of Cardinal George’s workshop scheduled for 2:40 p.m. At 11:40 a.m., the Cardinal will join participants for lunch and then answer questions in an open dialogue with them, an event that often draws a full house.
The event begins at 8:15 a.m. and is a compilation of over 100 English, Spanish and Polish-language small-group presentations designed for the exchange of ideas and resources to help parish leaders meet the needs of the faithful at their parishes.
“Taking the Spirit to the Streets: Bringing People Closer to God features 67 brand new workshops that have never before been presented,” said Rita Kattner, Director of the Archdiocese’s Office for Councils, sponsor of the annual event.
Most Rev. J. Peter Sartain, Bishop of the Diocese of Joliet, begins the day with an 8:45 a.m. English-language keynote address. (Sartain will also deliver his keynote in Spanish at 10:15 a.m.) Following the address, attendees can participate in the first of three, 75-minute breakout sessions. A closing liturgy, with Cardinal George as the main celebrant, will take place at 4:10 p.m. Rev. Thomas McCarthy, OSA, president of Chicago’s St. Rita of Cascia High School, will deliver the homily.
Those interested in attending are asked to pre-register using materials recently sent to pastors and parish council leaders throughout the Archdiocese. Information can also be found via the Leadership Day link on the Archdiocesan website, www.archchicago.org, or by calling Kattner at (312) -8364.
