Stand Up, Do Not Be Afraid on February 18 and 19

Chicago, IL ( February 13, 2008 ) – At 7 p.m. February 18 and 19, Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica Parish, 3121 W. Jackson Blvd. in Chicago, will be the site of Stand Up, Do Not Be Afraid, the 2 nd annual West Side Catholic Revival. Seven Archdiocese of Chicago parishes will sponsor the revival: Holy Family Parish, St. Agatha Parish, St. Malachy Parish, St. Martin de Porres Parish, Notre Dame Parish, Old St. Mary’s Parish and Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica Parish.

Rev. Paul de Porres Whittington, O.P., revivalist and retreat director, will preach during this two-day revival, which also includes music from choirs of three of the sponsoring parishes. On Monday, February 17, the choir of St. Malachy Parish will perform under the direction of Fred Jones. Tuesday’s music will be provided by the combined choirs from St. Martin de Porres and Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica parishes under the direction of Anthony McQueen, Sr. and Dr. Thomas Jefferson. A 90-minute fellowship session will be held each evening starting at 5:30 p.m.

Fr. Whittington is currently the prior (superior) and Vicar for Health Care of the Dominican community at the St. Pius V Priory on Chicago’s near south side. He travels the U.S. as a revivalist and retreat director and also celebrates weekend Masses at many Archdiocesan parishes. Fr. Whittington formerly served as a guidance counselor and teacher at Fenwick High School in Oak Park. He earned an M.A. degree in educational administration from Dominican University in River Forest in 2002.
