There are 43 Catholic Cemeteries in the Archdiocese of Chicago in Cook and Lake Counties. More than 90 percent of all funerals from the 363 parishes of the Archdiocese are held in an Archdiocesan Catholic Cemetery. The first cemetery founded to serve the Catholic faithful from the Chicago area was Calvary Cemetery, consecrated in 1859. Many of the early Catholic cemeteries were founded by people of a particular nationality, however, today these cemeteries welcome all the Catholic faithful from across the Archdiocese.
