CATHOLICS COME HOME CHICAGO
LAUNCHES WITH MAJOR EVANGELIZATION INITIATIVE

2,000 TV Commercials to Air in Chicago Metropolitan Area

Chicago, IL (December 16, 2009) – Beginning today, evangelization in the Archdiocese of Chicago will take to the airwaves for a major media effort designed to reach out to Catholics that have drifted from the practice of the faith.  Over the next five and a half weeks, Catholics Come Home Chicago will present approximately 2,000 television commercials in English, Spanish and Polish that will air on ABC Channel 7, CBS Channel 2, NBC Channel 5, WGN Channel 9, FOX Channel 32, Telemundo Channel 44, Univision Channel 66, Polvision, Polsat and Cable Stations.

The tri-Diocesan (Chicago, Joliet and Rockford) Catholics Come Home evangelization initiative has three overlapping components beginning with “The Invitation” that centers on the TV commercials.  The campaign also includes “The Welcome” by parishes as they receive people who return to the practice of the faith, and “The Accompaniment” as they return to the sacraments and deepen their knowledge of the faith while returning to parish life and community.

In his recent remarks to all parishes in Cook and Lake counties, Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago, reflected on Catholics Come Home Chicago by saying, “Christ has left us the command to go and make disciples everywhere, at all times.  He would also have us call home those who were once disciples but who have lost contact with him and his Church.  Your words, your works and your prayers will make all the difference in the weeks to come.  Help extend the reach of Christ’s love as we prepare again to celebrate his birthday.”

The centerpiece of the Catholics Come Home Chicago evangelization effort is a commercial titled Epic that will be broadcast in English, Spanish and Polish. This commercial has won multiple awards including a 2008 Telly Award for Top Honors and 2009 Communicator Awards.

A comprehensive and informative web site for returning Catholics, new Catholics or those wishing to learn more about the Faith, has been created for this campaign at www.CatholicsComeHomeCHICAGO.org
