ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO’S RESPECT LIFE OFFICE ANNOUNCES ACTIVITIES
37th ANNIVERSARY OF THE ROE V. WADE DECISION
Chicago, IL (January 15, 2010) – Marking the 37th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision to legalize abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy, the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Respect Life Office will be participating in events and activities that focus on offering prayers and actions to ensure that every human being is valued and protected from the moment of conception until natural death.
“It’s difficult to imagine that over the past 37 years, more than 50 million abortions have occurred in the U.S. There must be a time when we say, ‘Enough is enough,’” said Mary-Louise Kurey, Director of the Archdiocese’s Respect Life Office. “It’s incredibly hopeful,” Kurey continued, “to see hundreds of thousands of young people from across the nation gathering at the March for Life to take a stand and witness.”
The Archdiocese of Chicago is sending a record seven buses, with more than 320 teens and young adults, to the March for Life in Washington D.C. The Send-Off Mass will be celebrated at Queen of All Saints Basilica, 6280 North Sauganash Avenue in Chicago, on Wednesday, January 20 at 6:30 p.m. Fr. Joe Noonan will be the principal celebrant.
Activities in Washington D.C. include the National Prayer Vigil for Life, the Rally for Life and Youth Mass at the Verizon Center, the March for Life, and a private gathering with Cardinal George. The Chicago pilgrims return Sunday, January 24.
In addition, about 40 parishes, or clusters of parishes, throughout the Archdiocese are involved with Respect Life prayers and activities in solidarity with the hundreds of pilgrims from Cook and Lake counties going to the Mach for Life in Washington D.C.
