THEOLOGY-ON-TAP CELEBRATES 30 YEARS OF SERVING THE FINEST IN
SPEAKERS, CONVERSATION, AND THEOLOGY
For Young Adults (20s & 30s, Married & Single) - Begins July 11
Chicago, IL (July 7, 2010) - Theology-on-Tap, a speaker and conversation series for people in their 20s and 30s, is being hosted at 56 locations throughout the Chicagoland area. This successful evangelization and catechesis program beginning Sunday, July 11, continues to provide the opportunity for young adults, both married and single, to learn more about the Catholic faith, make connections between faith and everyday life, and enter into discussions with their peers.
This four-week, summer program offered Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, includes a speaker, conversation and theology, and provides parishes and Catholic Student Centers in the Archdiocese and surrounding dioceses, the opportunity to talk together about faith based topics and spend time sharing insights with one another. The topics offered include: Scripture, Church History, the Tradition, Liturgy, Sacraments, Spirituality, Social Justice, Spirituality, Prayer, Relationships, Ecumenism, Inter-faith dialogue, Meaningful Work, and Bringing Christ into the World. Sessions typically run from 7:30 until 9:30 p.m.
There are a number of different ways to participate in Theology-on-Tap, including by location, topic or selected speaker. Participants can choose one location near their home or work and attend all four sessions at that location, or they are welcome to choose from among the many topics and attend any site where the topic is being addressed.
On Sunday, August 8, this special 30th Anniversary of Theology-on-Tap will conclude with a 3 p.m. Mass celebrated by Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago, at Holy Name Cathedral, State and Superior Streets in Chicago, followed by a picnic with music, food and dancing at the Cardinal’s residence beginning at 4:30 p.m.
In honor of its 30th Anniversary celebration, all who have ever been part of the program are invited to attend the Mass and Picnic.
Since it began in 1981 with a single hosting site, more than 270 speakers have addressed over 40,000 young adults in more than 4,000 sessions at 203 different parishes, universities and organizations in the Archdiocese. The Diocese of Joliet joined Theology-on-Tap for the first time during the summer of 1994, the Diocese of Rockford in 1998, the Diocese of Gary, Indiana in 2000, and the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 2001. Today, 48 states, including Alaska and Hawaii, have hosted or are currently hosting the Theology-on-Tap program as well as countries including Canada, Italy, Taiwan, the Philippines, Ireland and Hong Kong.
Theology-on-Tap is sponsored by the Young Adult Ministry Office of the Archdiocese of Chicago. For details on speakers, topics, locations and the closing picnic on Sunday, August 8, visit www.yamchicago.org or call the Young Adult Ministry Office at 312-466-9473.
