ARCHDIOCESAN OFFICE FOR HISPANIC CATHOLICS CELEBRATES 12TH NOCHE DE GALA

Chicago (July 13, 2010) - The Archdiocese of Chicago’s Office for Hispanic Catholics will celebrate the 12th annual Noche de Gala, on Friday evening, July 23, at the Hilton Chicago, 720 South Michigan Avenue.

Francis Cardinal George, OMI, Archbishop of Chicago, will attend this annual recognition dinner and award ceremony that honors Catholics who serve and work in Hispanic ministry in the Archdiocese.  Nearly 1,000 people, representing almost 150 parishes offering Hispanic ministry and various archdiocesan agencies, are expected to attend.

In addition to the regular awards and presentation, the evening will also be the occasion for acknowledging the contributions of Fr. Claudio Diaz, Jr., for his six years as Director of Hispanic Ministry, while welcoming the new director, Fr. Marco Antonio Mercado.

The following individuals will receive awards in recognition of work and dedication to Hispanic Ministry in the Archdiocese of Chicago:

Pastor of St. Rita of Cascia Parish in Chicago
Blessed Pope John XXIII Award in recognition of priestly dedication to Hispanic ministry

Sr. Maria Teresa Pacheco-Sosa MGSPS
St. Pancratius Convent in Chicago
Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Award in recognition of women religious in Hispanic ministry 

Deacon Jose Cisneros
St. Leonard Parish in Berwyn
Saint Stephen Award, in recognition of a deacon in Hispanic ministry

Graciela Contreras
Vicariate I Hispanic Ministry Coordinator, Office of Hispanic Catholics in Libertyville
Gaudium et Spes Award in recognition of Hispanic lay ministry

Rev. Carl Quebedeaux, CMF
Pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in South Chicago
Angelina Marquez Lifetime Dedication Award, in recognition of exceptional service to Hispanic ministry 

Emmy-nominated, freelance, general assignment reporter for ABC7 Chicago, Michelle Gallardo, will be the evening’s Mistress of Ceremonies.
