Our Church: Ever Ancient, Ever New Saturday, February 26, at Maria High School in Chicago

Chicago, IL (January 19, 2011) – A Conversation with Cardinal George will be one of the major highlights at the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Parish Leadership Day on Saturday, February 26, at Maria High School, 6727 South California Avenue in Chicago.  Francis Cardinal George, OMI, Archbishop of Chicago, will directly engage in an informal dialog with Leadership Day participants and will be the celebrant at the Closing Liturgy.  Rev. Freddy Washington, CSSp, pastor of St. Mary Magdalene and St. Ambrose Parishes in Chicago, will be the homilist. 

Open to all interested parishioners and leaders from around the Archdiocese, along with priests, religious, and parish staffs, Leadership Day will include 100 workshops given in English, Polish and Spanish.  Workshop topics include: Leader Formation, Spiritual Life, Parish Life, Human Concerns and Education.  In addition, Todd Williamson, Director of the Office for Divine Worship and Rev. Monsignor Richard Hynes, Director of the Department of Parish Life and Formation, will make a special presentation, The Roman Missal: Promises and Challenges that will briefly explore the context of the English translation of the third edition of the Roman Missal.

Keynote speakers, Rev. Donald Senior, CP, and Rev. Marco A. Mercado, will address the participants in English and Spanish.  Fr. Senior is president of Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, the largest Roman Catholic graduate school of ministry in the United States, where he is also a member of the faculty as professor of New Testament.  Fr. Mercado was recently appointed Director of Hispanic Ministry for the Archdiocese of Chicago, after serving as pastor for eight years at Good Shepherd Parish in Chicago.
