CHICAGO PILGRIMS INVITED TO ATTEND 2012 INTERNATIONAL EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS IN IRELAND

Chicago, IL (August 29) – The 50th International Eucharistic Congress will be held in Dublin, Ireland from June 10 to June 17, 2012. Pope Benedict XVI has given his formal approval to the 50th International Eucharistic Congress theme: The Eucharist: Communion with Christ and with One Another.

There are two Chicago opportunities to participate in this gathering of the Catholic faithful from around the world:

Official Chicago Archdiocesan Pilgrimage to the 50th International Eucharistic Congress - Fr. Jim O'Brien has been appointed by Cardinal George to lead the Chicago delegation on this fourteen day pilgrimage from June 6 to June 19, 2012. The itinerary will include daily Mass, both the opening and closing ceremonies and participants will be able to take full advantage of the Congress' programs. The tour will also include visits to many of Ireland's most beloved and religiously significant locations, including the Cliffs of Moher, monastic sites at Glendalough and Clonmacnoise, as well as historic Belfast and Dublin. Bishop Perry and the Pope John Paul II Eucharistic Adoration Association – Most Rev. Joseph N. Perry, Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago, and the John Paul II Eucharistic Adoration Association, will host a pilgrimage to the 50th International Eucharistic Congress from June 7 to June 18, 2012. During the days of the Congress, participants will attend events, the closing Mass and ceremonies. After arriving in Dublin, participants will have a tour of the city and surroundings, including O'Connel St., Trinity University and Christchurch Cathedral. On June 9 there will be a full day tour to Knock, the location of the internationally recognized Marian Shrine.
