Chicago, IL (June 29, 2011) – The Archdiocese of Chicago’s Strategic Pastoral Plan: Reflect Christ’s Light, spans five years from 2011 to 2016.The themed years began in July 2011 with the Year of Teens and Young Adults. The Plan continues with The Year of Sunday Mass, starting July 1, 2012, followed by Year of Parent Formation in 2013 and Year of the Sacraments in 2014.
Archdiocesan parishes in Cook and Lake counties have been actively engaged in implementing the new Strategic Pastoral Plan in the way that is most fitting to their community, with Archdiocesan agencies providing support and resources. The Plan’s purpose is to more deeply incorporate baptized Catholics into the life of the Catholic Church.
The Year of Sunday Mass will coincide, beginning in October 2012, with “The Year of Faith” designated by Pope Benedict XVI as a celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council and the twentieth anniversary of the publication of The Catechism of the Catholic Church. The Archdiocese of Chicago will integrate essential elements of both years.
A new website for this second year initiative has been launched to help provide resources that include: A Video Celebration of Sunday Mass, weekly bulletin inserts for Question of the Week and One Word at a Time, Events and more. The Year of Sunday Mass website can be accessed directly from the front page of the Archdiocesan website, www.archchicago.org, or at www.archchicago.org/StrategicPastoralPlan/SundayMass The Video Celebration of Sunday Mass is also found on YouTube on the Catholic Chicago Channel.
