Ordained April 27, 1967

Chicago, IL (September 2, 2008) - Rev. Ronald H. Folger, associate pastor of St. Peter Parish in north suburban Antioch, died on Friday, August 29, at age 67. At the time of his death, Fr. Folger was a resident of St. Benedict Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in northwest suburban Niles.

A Chicago native, Fr. Folger was born on February 5, 1941 and was baptized at Our Lady of Grace Parish in the city’s Logan Square neighborhood. After attending Our Lady of Grace and St. Genevieve Catholic elementary schools, Fr. Folger graduated from Quigley (North) Preparatory Seminary in June 1960, and the University of St. Mary of the Lake / Mundelein Seminary in April 1967.

Fr. Folger, who was fluent in the German language, was ordained a priest on April 27, 1967 and, three days later celebrated his first solemn Mass at St. William Parish in Chicago’s Montclare neighborhood. On May 22 of that year, Fr. Folger began his first assignment as assistant pastor of St. John Brebeuf Parish in Niles. He served there until June 1974, when he was named assistant pastor of St. Daniel the Prophet Parish in the city’s Garfield Ridge neighborhood. In June 1979, Fr. Folger became associate pastor of St. Joseph Parish in far northwest suburban Round Lake, a position he held until June 1984.

Fr. Folger then began a five-year assignment as associate pastor of Transfiguration Parish in nearby Wauconda. In June 1989, Fr. Folger was named associate pastor of Queen of the Rosary Parish in northwest suburban Elk Grove Village, where he remained until June 1994. One month later, he began a five-year assignment at St. Joseph Parish in north suburban Libertyville where he served as associate pastor and parish administrator. In July 1999, Fr. Folger was named associate pastor of St. Peter Parish.

Visitation for Fr. Folger will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., on September 2 at St. Peter Church, 557 W. Lake St., Antioch. Most Rev. George Rassas, Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago, will celebrate Fr. Folger’s funeral Mass immediately following the visitation. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove.
