ARCHDIOCESAN PRIEST, REV. RICHARD J. MAGINOT, DIES
Pastor Emeritus of St. Alphonsus Liguori Parish, Prospect Heights
CHICAGO (November 15, 2013) - Rev. Richard J. Maginot, pastor emeritus of St. Alphonsus Liguori Parish in Prospect Heights, died Friday, November 15. He was a resident of St. Benedict Home in Niles at the time of his death. He was 89 years of age and an Archdiocesan priest for 63 years.
Fr. Maginot was born in Chicago on April 14, 1924. He attended St. Margaret Mary and St. Jerome Catholic schools and Loyola High School for three years, before entering Quigley Preparatory Seminary. He graduated from the University of Saint Mary of the Lake / Mundelein Seminary in 1950 and was ordained by Cardinal Stritch that year.
For ten years, from 1950 to 1960, Fr. Maginot was the assistant pastor of St. Mary Parish in Des Plaines. He served in the same capacity for the next five years at St. Frances of Rome Parish in Cicero and then for three years at Our Lady of Loretto Parish in Hometown.
From 1968 to 1975, Fr. Maginot was the assistant pastor at Our Lady of Humility in Beach Park. He served as associate pastor for the next three years at St. Philip the Apostle in Northfield, before being named pastor of St. Alphonsus Liguori in Prospect Heights. He was named pastor emeritus there when he retired from active ministry in 1994, after 16 years as pastor.
Visitation for Fr. Maginot will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. on Monday, November 18, at St. Alphonsus Liguori Church, 411 North Wheeling Road in Prospect Heights. Retired Bishop Raymond Goedert will be the main celebrant of the funeral Mass for Fr. Maginot at 11 a.m. Father Curtis Lambert, pastor of St. Alphonsus Liguori, will be the homilist.
Interment will take place at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines. Fr. Maginot is survived by nieces and nephews.
