The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe of the Archdiocese of Chicago Welcomes the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage on Thursday, June 27, 2024

The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe is one of 14 locations hosting the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage in the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Des Plaines, Ill. (June 26, 2024) – The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe of the Archdiocese of Chicago welcomes the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage on Thursday, June 27th. The day will feature multicultural celebrations in multiple languages from noon to 9 p.m., inviting faithful of all ethnic backgrounds to participate. Hundreds of pilgrims are expected to gather at the Shrine for a day of Adoration to the Blessed Sacrament, joined by clergy members from the Archdiocese of Chicago, including two auxiliary bishops, the Most Reverend Jeffrey Grob and the Most Reverend Robert J. Lombardo.

The events kick-off with a youth gathering at University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary and conclude with Cardinal Blase Cupich presiding over the closing Mass at Holy Name Cathedral.
Chicago, (June 21, 2024) – The Archdiocese of Chicago welcomes the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage (NEP) starting on Wednesday, June 26 through Sunday, June 30, 2024. The pilgrimage is travelling across the United States and the Archdiocese of Chicago will host five days of special events, volunteer opportunities and Eucharistic celebrations at parishes, shrines and missions.

Fourteen Permanent and Transitional Catholic Deacons will be Ordained on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago

The Archdiocese of Chicago has the largest Catholic diaconate in the world with 466 active deacons.
Chicago, (May 7, 2024) – Twelve permanent and two transitional Catholic deacons will be ordained at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Holy Name Cathedral, 735 N. State St., Chicago. Cardinal Blase Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, will be the main celebrant at the ordination and will offer the homily. The newly ordained deacons will be assigned to parishes in Argo, Arlington Heights, Burbank, Chicago, Orland Park, Summit and Waukegan.

The Archdiocese of Chicago’s 13th Annual Prayer Service for Child Abuse Prevention and Pinwheel Planting Will Take Place on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at the Healing Garden Located at Holy Family Parish in Chicago at 11 a.m.

Rev. Aaron Bohr, SJ, will preside over the prayer service.
Chicago, (April 23, 2024) – The Archdiocese of Chicago’s 13th annual prayer service for child abuse prevention and pinwheel planting will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at the Healing Garden at Holy Family Parish, 1080 W. Roosevelt Rd., Chicago. The outdoor service will be led by Rev. Aaron Bohr, SJ. As part of the prayer service, students, staff, parishioners and community members will pray, sing, plant pinwheels and tie blue ribbons on to trees in the Healing Garden, both symbols of child safeguarding efforts.

Lilly Endowment Inc. Awards Three Grants to Help Congregations in the Archdiocese of Chicago Thrive

Archdiocese of Chicago, University of St. Mary of the Lake and St. Clement Parish each received $1.25 million through Lilly Endowment’s national initiative.
Chicago, (April 4, 2024) – The Archdiocese of Chicago, the University of Saint Mary of the Lake in Mundelein and St. Clement Parish in Chicago each received a $1.25 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to be used for projects funded through Lilly Endowment’s Thriving Congregations Initiative. The aim of the initiative is to encourage the flourishing of congregations by helping them deepen their relationships with God, enhance their connections with each other and contribute to the vitality of their communities and the world.

St. Bede School in Ingleside to Close Despite Massive Fundraising

Loss of Invest in Kids Scholarship program creates uncertainty that impacted enrollment.
Chicago (March 21, 2024) – Today, Rev. George Koeune, pastor of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish and St. Bede School in Ingleside, Ill. announced that St. Bede School will be closing at the end of this school year due to low registration for next school year. As of March 19, 119 students had registered for next year whereas the parish and school had set an enrollment target of 182.

Archdiocese of Chicago Will Join with the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago to Mark the Breaking of the Ramadan Fast at the 24th Annual Muslim-Catholic Iftar on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at the Islamic Foundation North in Libertyville

Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, and Dr. Abdulgany Hamadeh, chairman of CIOGC, will offer remarks. Bishop Mark Bartosic and Imam Azfar Uddin will be the keynote speakers.
Chicago (March 11, 2024) – The Archdiocese of Chicago will join with the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC) to mark a day’s fast at the 24th Annual Muslim-Catholic Iftar dinner and program on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, from 5 – 8:15 p.m. at the Islamic Foundation North (IFN), 1751 S. O'Plaine Rd., in Libertyville. Sponsored by the CIOGC, the annual interfaith iftar commemorates breaking the Ramadan fast, observing maghrib prayer and sharing a festive dinner and program. The iftar is a private event.

Chicago, (Feb. 29, 2024) – The 27th Annual Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Jerusalem Lecture will take place at North Shore Congregation Israel, 1185 Sheridan Rd., Glencoe, on Monday, March 4, 2024 from 7 – 8:15 p.m. Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, will deliver opening remarks and Rabbi Wendi Geffen, senior rabbi at NSCI, will provide the introduction of speakers and serve as emcee. Professor Mary C. Boys, SNJM, of Union Theological Seminary in New York, will be the keynote speaker. The lecture is part of a longstanding series that maintains dialogue between Jewish and Catholic communities on the theological issues affecting their relationship.
