Retired Auxiliary Bishop Raymond E. Goedert, 96, died Dec. 9. “As we grieve the death of Bishop Emeritus Raymond Goedert, we thank God for giving his servant to us and the Church for 71 years,” said Cardinal Cupich.

Auxiliary Bishops Joseph Perry, Andrew Wypych retire
Pope Francis announced on Sept. 19 that he had accepted the resignations of Archdiocese of Chicago Auxiliary Bishops Joseph Perry and Andrew Wypych. Perry is 75, the age at which canon law requires bishops to submit their resignation to the pope. Wypych, 68, resigned for health reasons.
Archdiocese mourns death of Bishop Kevin Birmingham
Archdiocese of Chicago Auxiliary Bishop Kevin Birmingham, 51, died unexpectedly Oct. 2. He was recently appointed episcopal vicar of Vicariate VI, after having served as episcopal vicar of Vicariate IV since shortly after being ordained a bishop on Nov. 13, 2020.

Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Bishop Daniel R. Jenky of Peoria and Coadjutor Bishop Louis Tylka of Peoria immediately succeeds him, becoming the ninth bishop of Peoria.
Haitian priest to become first Black bishop in South Carolina
Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone of Charleston, South Carolina, and named as his successor Scalabrinian Father Jacques E. Fabre, currently administrator of San Filipe de Jesus Catholic Mission in Forest Park, Georgia, in the Atlanta Archdiocese.
