Empowering vulnerable mothers
Motherhood is a beautiful and awesome responsibility. As a mother myself, I can attest there is nothing like it. It offers countless opportunities to experience love beyond all imagining.
Helping those who lost loved ones to suicide
When people contact Catholic Charities for assistance dealing with the loss of a loved one to suicide, we tell them that the Loving Outreach to Survivors of Suicide (LOSS) is here for them on their grief journey, offering community, direction and resources for healing, as it has been doing for the past 45 years.
Partner with us
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace” (1 Pt 4:10). As First Peter beautifully reminds us, everyone has something to give and to receive. We witness this each day at Catholic Charities when we receive the transformational gifts of love, gratitude and divine encounter that those we serve bestow upon us.
Helping with mental health
Behavioral health refers to the emotions and behaviors that affect a person’s body, mind, spirit and overall well-being. Just like physical healthcare providers, trained behavioral health providers offer specialized services and case management support to identify the root causes of clients’ mental and behavioral conflicts and offer solutions for a more positive path forward.
Helping to alleviate migrant crisis
While you may be seeing stories in the news media about asylum seekers in Chicago needing shelter for the winter, you may not be aware that Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago has assumed a critical role in the response to this housing crisis.
Volunteers make apartments ‘homes’
For the past 17 years, it has been my privilege to help people experiencing homelessness transition to safe, stable housing through Catholic Charities’ Housing Case Management Department in Lake County. Having a place to call home is critical to people leading healthy lives that enable them to live in dignity and reach their fullest potential.
Assisting our veterans
No one who served our country should be without a home and yet, according to the most recent point-in-time count by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which assesses the number of homeless people on any given night, veterans made up approximately 7% of all homeless adults in the country.
Planting seeds for lifelong growth seeds for lifelong growth
It’s back to school season and parents from all walks of life want their children to have everything they need to succeed. For students who may struggle with social or behavioral issues, mentors can be a critical support for achieving positive lifelong outcomes.
We embrace the stories that don’t have tidy outcomes
At Catholic Charities, we love sharing stories of our success: the young single mother who secures safe housing for herself and her three small children; the lonely senior who finds not just a new apartment, but new friends and a supportive community; the mourning family, with no savings and a lot of debt, who is able to bury their beloved grandmother with dignity.
Helping mothers and their babies
When Osiris Alvarez’s baby girl Yasmin was born in December 2020, she was overjoyed, but also nervous about caring for a newborn during a pandemic.
